TAINAN, Taiwan--()--To strengthen international academic cooperation and solidify research capabilities, Department Chair Teh-Lu Liao of Department of Engineering Science at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Prof. Hans Georg Bock of Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing at Heidelberg University, Germany, opening a new page of the international cooperation and academic exchange between the two universities.
The signing ceremony took place at the Department Building of Engineering Science, Cheng-Kung Campus, NCKU, and guests from Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing at Heidelberg University as well as teachers and students from Department of Engineering Science at National Cheng Kung University have all attended the ceremony to witness the historical moment.
NCKU Department Chair Teh-Lu Liao of Department of Engineering Science expressed, “Prior to the signing of MOU, Prof. Jer-Nan Juang and Prof. Hans Georg Bock have engaged in academic cooperation and in August, several master and doctoral students from Department of Engineering Science have traveled to Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing to participate in short-term study and research. As we have officially completed the signing, mutual cooperation officially begins.”
The mutual cooperation includes encouraging and supporting the exchange of technological and research information and theory and laboratory research achievements between both sides and also promoting the visits between teachers, research personnel and postdoctoral fellows.
The Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing at Heidelberg University, established in 1987, currently has approximately 500 research personnel and its academic research covers humanities, including history and economics, and science, including physics, chemistry, mechanics, aerospace, computer and biology, being one of the world’s largest scientific computing research centers.
According to Web of Science database, in the field of engineering science, from 2000 to 2010, Department of Engineering Science at National Cheng Kung University has ranked 3rd place in the world, only second to that of Harvard University, United States, and University of Oxford, United Kingdom.
