LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--CES 2011 booth number 7853, Central Hall—Dolby Laboratories, Inc. (NYSE:DLB) will demonstrate the many ways it enhances the entertainment experience — be it movies, music, games, or television — with outstanding audio at the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES). Dolby is exhibiting its audio technologies integrated into the latest entertainment devices, including the newest laptops, Blu-ray Disc™ players, smartphones, home theater systems, televisions, and game consoles, to help deliver a high-definition entertainment experience.
“Dolby has played an essential role in the entertainment ecosystem for more than four decades, working closely with content creators, device manufacturers, and distribution networks to bring a high-quality entertainment experience to consumers,” said Kevin Yeaman, President and Chief Executive Officer, Dolby Laboratories. “Consumers today are getting entertainment on new devices — and they should expect a rich, high-definition audio experience, where and when they want it, whether they are using a PC, tablet, or smartphone.”
Dolby Transforms the Consumer Entertainment Experience
At CES 2011, Dolby will show how the company is capitalizing on decades of audio research and experience to improve overall entertainment quality for consumers. Highlighting the importance of enabling great audio on the go, Dolby will be showcasing its recently announced, redesigned Dolby® PC Entertainment Experience, consisting of a new suite of audio technologies, Dolby Home Theater® v4 and Dolby Advanced Audio v2. Acer will release the first products utilizing these new technologies in its high-end Aspire® Ethos consumer multimedia notebooks and its Aspire Z Series all-in-one PCs.
Whether it’s on the go or in the home, Dolby delivers innovations that enhance the quality and value of sounds and images for movies, music, television, and games, all which will be showcased at the Dolby booth at CES (number 7853, Central Hall).
- Movies: A high-definition cinematic movie experience can now be enjoyed at home. Dolby will feature the latest in streaming media devices including a PlayStation® 3 with Netflix and a LG BD590 Blu-ray Disc player streaming VUDU™ content in Dolby Digital Plus, and will showcase Blu-ray content in Dolby TrueHD. The devices will play the latest movies, delivering crisp, immersing sound through a 7.1 surround sound system featuring Focal 800V series speakers, powered by a Harman Kardon® AVR 3600. Visitors to the Dolby booth will be able to see how they can enjoy their favorite movies in Dolby surround sound on a smartphone with the Nokia® N8 using Dolby Digital Plus as well as Acer’s latest laptop, the 8950G, which is enabled with Dolby Home Theater v4.
- Music: Using an Onkyo TX-NR3007 AVR and Atlantic Technology 5.1 speakers, Dolby will re-create — in the living room — the experience of watching a live performance. For those interested in a portable experience, Dolby will demonstrate how music can be experienced with the HP Pavilion dv6t laptop featuring Dolby Advanced Audio and the LG Mini smartphone with Dolby Mobile.
- Television: Visitors to the Dolby booth will also be able to tune in to the excitement of experiencing high-definition television as they’ve never heard it before. With a Panasonic DMP-BDT21OP Blu-ray Disc player streaming Netflix TV shows straight from the Web and amplified through a Denon AVR4311C1 into PSB 7.1 speakers, television is elevated to a passion, not a pastime. TV Everywhere has arrived and Dolby will demonstrate how TV can be transformed, whether it’s experienced on an Acer Stream phone with Dolby Mobile or a Toshiba Satellite L655 with Dolby Advanced Audio.
- Games: The Dolby booth will feature racing seats and Alienware® PCs so attendees can race through the levels of Electronic Arts’ Need for Speed™ World as the game designers intended. The Dolby setup will feature Sennheiser PC 333D headsets to showcase the benefits of Dolby Axon, surround sound voice chat technology that provides superior voice quality, free of clipping, echo, and unwanted noise to increase the thrill of the game.
Quality Home Entertainment with Hollywood Roots
Also highlighted at CES are Dolby’s efforts with Hollywood studios, production houses, and industry associations to introduce new technologies that propel the creation and delivery of stunning audio content.
Dolby to Receive Technology & Engineering Emmy Award
The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) will award Dolby a prestigious Technology & Engineering Emmy® Award for the Development of an Audio Metadata Processor, which alleviates consumer issues with volume while preserving the original audio quality. The award reception will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at The Venetian, Marcello Ballroom, Level 4.
“Entertainment has never looked or sounded better, thanks to Hollywood and the content community,” said Ramzi Haidamus, Executive Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Dolby Laboratories. “Dolby is honored to receive the Technology & Engineering Emmy from The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and we will strive to maintain the integrity of the content creator and deliver the best experience possible for consumers.”
Dolby and Digital Entertainment Content Ecosystem (DECE)
As a reflection of its commitment to helping consumers experience high-quality entertainment on the platform or device of their choice, Dolby will be showcasing its support for Digital Entertainment Content Ecosystem (DECE), an alliance of leading entertainment and technology companies, and UltraViolet, the new industry standard developed by DECE that will make it easier for consumers to purchase and watch digital movies and entertainment how, when and where they want.
“As a Founder member of DECE, we celebrate the arrival of UltraViolet,” said Pat Griffis, Senior Director, Technology Strategy, Dolby. “UltraViolet represents a new way to think about digital entertainment and Dolby aims to bring outstanding experiences to people who choose UltraViolet content and devices.”
