ROME--()--John Cabot University (JCU), an accredited four-year American university in Rome, has established a new International Business major that will provide students with real-world immersion in a global business capital and a deep understanding of the social, political and cultural context that is vital to pursuing a career in the field.
“International business majors at John Cabot will be fully prepared for this terrain. Right here in Rome, students will be directly involved in a capital city that has significant inter-relationships between business and the political, cultural and social environment.”
The new international business major, now available to all students, requires 120 credit-hours. Built on the core structure for John Cabot’s business administration majors, students will be going through a case-study curriculum with internship opportunities available. The program is distinguished by a further emphasis on international business, giving students the chance to explore specific global business issues, including those of a political and economic order, as well as those related to specific situations in marketing and management.
“The global economy is continuously changing, requiring students to have a keen understanding of the complex intersections between business and society around the world,”said JCU President Franco Pavoncello. “International business majors at John Cabot will be fully prepared for this terrain. Right here in Rome, students will be directly involved in a capital city that has significant inter-relationships between business and the political, cultural and social environment.”
With more embassies than any other city in the world, Rome has become a central location for non-governmental agencies like the World Food Programme and the Food and Agriculture Organization. John Cabot has connected students in their international affairs program with such organizations for internship opportunities in the past.
The KOF Swiss Economic Institute’s Index of Globalization Worldwide shows the dramatic growth of globalization activities since the 1990’s. Italy ranked among the top 25 nations in the globalization index for 2010, making Rome an effective location for studying the international context for business. More importantly, the index shows multiple forms of commerce emerging where the government and political processes are dominant players in consistently developing world economies.
The Institute of International Education released their “Open Doors” data last month, ranking Italy as the No. 2 location for study-abroad students. This coming spring semester, John Cabot is expecting to have over 900 students enrolled after seeing the highest number of applicants on record for the 2010/2011 school year.
