MILFORD, N.H.--()--AdaptivCOOL, a division of Degree Controls Inc., (“degreeC”) received the Green IT Award for Savings in IT-related Energy Consumption by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) through its business partner, Yamatake Corp.
“Yamatake is looking forward to making IT energy conservation a reality for more companies through the implementation of AdaptivCOOL”
METI established The Green IT Award in FY2008 to further foster “savings in IT-related energy consumption” and “energy conservation through the use of IT.” AdaptivCOOL was recognized for its ability to improve a data center’s efficiency by cutting energy consumption and operational costs. AdaptivCOOL’s Demand Based Cooling (DBC) reduces the energy consumed to cool a data center on average by 30 percent through its patented airflow management methodology, which locates hotspots and targets individual racks for cooling.
About half of the energy consumed by a data center is used for cooling systems. AdaptivCOOL provides companies with a cost-effective solution: On average, businesses achieve payback from energy savings within 18 months of implementation.
Tokyo’s Metropolitan government has mandated that businesses in that city reduce CO2 emissions by 8 percent over the next five years. “AdaptivCOOL can easily help companies achieve and surpass this new regulatory requirement,” said Rajesh Nair, founder and Chief Technology Officer of Degree Controls.
In the U.S., DBC technology has been approved for energy credits by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), National Grid and other utilities.
“Yamatake is looking forward to making IT energy conservation a reality for more companies through the implementation of AdaptivCOOL,” said Mr. Kiyohiro Yamamoto, General Manager, Environmental Marketing Department, Azbil Group at Yamatake Corp.
About AdaptivCOOL
AdaptivCOOL is a division of Milford, New Hampshire-based Degree Controls. AdaptivCOOL’s flagship technology, Demand-Based Cooling, calculates cooling demand at a data center’s different rack locations and supplies adequate airflow dynamically via floor- and ceiling-mounted air movers. This enables cooling of the IT load with fewer computer room air conditioning units (CRACs) and reduces the data-center cooling power by about 30 percent.
