Boxee CEO to Demo New Boxee Box by D-Link at Streaming Media West Conference

Avner Ronen to demo new hardware platform and provide a guided tour through the Internet TV landscape

Streaming Media West 2010

MEDFORD, N.J.--()--StreamingMedia.com, a leading producer of news, information and events dedicated to the business, technology and content of online video, today announced that its upcoming annual Streaming Media West Exhibition and Conference will include an in-depth presentation by Boxee CEO Avner Ronen on the first hardware platform by Boxee, the Boxee Box by D-Link. Ronen will give a guided tour of the Boxee Box and provide his thoughts on the Internet TV landscape. Attendees will learn what consumers keep asking him for, and how he sees the competition stacking up in a conference session entitled "Boxee – Cutting Through the Hype of Internet TV" on Wednesday, November 3 at 1:45 p.m.

"Internet TV has already become an important market for content owners, hardware makers, and developers. At Boxee, we’re working with each member of the ecosystem to ensure they understand and adapt to what tomorrow's consumers expect from a TV experience," said Ronen. "Streaming Media West provides a great venue and audience to demonstrate the experience that today's technology enables content providers and hardware companies to deliver."

Ronen is a pioneer in the Internet TV industry. In 2004, a friend introduced him to Xbox Media Center (XBMC), open source software that allowed original Xbox owners to play digital content from their home networks on their TV. After becoming active contributors to the XBMC project, Ronen and friends decided to leave their jobs in 2007 to create a new "fork" of XBMC called Boxee. Utilizing XBMC's robust content playback platform as a base, Boxee distinguished itself by adding online sources like hulu and Netflix as well as core social networking functionality.

In addition to Ronen's session focusing on Boxee, a panel at Streaming Media West – "Internet-Enabled TVs and the Future of the Connected Living Room" – will include Boxee Marketing VP Andrew Kippen. The session covers business models for content owners streaming video to broadband-enabled TVs and Blu-ray players, and how these platforms are going to evolve. It takes place on Tuesday, November 2, at 10:30 a.m.

Media registration is open to working journalists and analysts with commercial news organizations and research firms. This includes editors, reporters, freelance writers, producers, camera crews and still photographers. Working journalists and analysts are provided complimentary access to all Streaming Media events and activities, excluding the pre-conference seminars.
