MOST Technologies Completes Migration of Natural/Adabas to Cobol/DB2

TEL-AVIV, Israel--(BUSINESS WIRE)--October 7th 2010 signaled the end of a ten month project to migrate a world leader in investment banking off their legacy Software AG application platform, Natural/Adabas to Cobol/DB2. The objective of the project was primarily to cut costs in maintaining and operating older technology and to consolidate infrastructure in accordance with corporate standards.

“The ability to deliver the project in phases put added pressure on the project team but did wonders in reducing risk and complexity inherent in the big bang approach.”

In the middle of 2009 a large IT Services provider approached MOST to collaborate in modernizing the bank's application portfolio. MOST was identified as having the migration technology and tools, the people skills and the track record to do the project, in what was understood to be an extremely aggressive time frame. The project called for migrating data, applications and all the environmental components that comprise a fully functioning production system by no later than August 2010.

The initial assignment was a two month Assessment of the bank's application inventory. The Assessment yielded a significant reduction in application code to be migrated as a result of successfully identifying code no longer active. Additionally, the assessment provided the opportunity to segment the applications into three distinct 'bundles' – each bundle to be delivered and elevated to production as a separate entity. In the words of a key stakeholder in the project: "The ability to deliver the project in phases put added pressure on the project team but did wonders in reducing risk and complexity inherent in the big bang approach."

The migration project commenced in October 2009 and the final application bundle went into production mid-July 2010. "Our ability to deliver the project within the timeframe set by the customer was a result of deploying MOST expertise and technology and the active involvement of the customer in all phases of the project," said Hadar Israeli, VP Delivery for MOST.

An integral part of the migration process was the restructuring of the migrated code into an application with 3 layered architecture – Presentation, Business and Data Access Layers. This layered architecture serves as a base for the continued modernization process with greater ease.
