Anapol Schwartz Announces Merger with Coben & Associates

Principal Larry Coben to Join the Firm

PHILADELPHIA--()--Anapol, Schwartz, Weiss, Cohan, Feldman & Smalley, P.C., announced that Coben & Associates will merge with the firm effective Sept. 30, 2010. Principal Larry Coben will join Anapol Schwartz as a shareholder and practice in the Philadelphia office.

Coben is nationally known for litigating high profile brain and spinal cord injury cases, concentrating on helmet failure and crashworthiness, including seat belt and seat back failure, failure of air bags to deploy, ejection and sudden acceleration. He adds his more than 35 years experience to Anapol Schwartz.

The recipient of the Association for Justice’s 2010 Consumer Advocacy award, Coben has obtained numerous seven- and eight-figure verdicts and settlements nationwide, including a $26 million verdict for a woman rendered a quadriplegic in a motor vehicle accident involving a seat failure, and a $12 million verdict for a high school football player who became a quadriplegic due to the defective design of his helmet.

He also achieved a $10.2 million verdict against Volkswagen on behalf of a Bucks County, Pa., high school student who was injured as a result of her car’s defectively designed rear seat system, and a $30 million verdict in Gloucester County, N.J., for a man rendered a quadriplegic due to a faulty airbag design. He is the author of “Crashworthiness Litigation,” a guide providing tactics for prosecuting such cases.

Coben is a member of the Arizona State Bar Association, the Maricopa County Bar Association and the American Bar Association. He is also a founding member of the American Association for Justice Information Exchange Group (AIEG) on crashworthiness, and has published numerous articles and books on this topic.

A resident of Philadelphia, Coben earned his undergraduate degree (B.S., 1968) from Athens College and his law degree (J.D., cum laude, 1973) from Cumberland School of Law of Samford University. He is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and Arizona.
