SAN FRANCISCO--()--Today at VMworld 2010, Teradici (booth #1733) and Wyse (booth #521) announced their selection as enablers of VMworld Labs – an intensive learning environment that provides more than 18,000 lab seats, and up to 480 concurrent lab sessions covering 30 topics on VMware virtualization solutions.
“In addition, our Security Gateway technology allows one-click secure connectivity to a virtual machine without a VPN. Teradici is excited to be playing such an integral role in the enablement of VMworld 2010 Labs.”
All Lab sessions utilize the PC-over-IP® protocol developed by Teradici and integrated into VMware View™ 4.5, as well as Wyse P20 zero Clients for a superior user experience with remote desktops. A subset of 240 lab desktops are hosted in remote data centers in Florida and Virginia connected through Teradici Security Gateway technology over the WAN.
“A rich, immersive experience is a key requirement for fast-paced learning in the VMworld labs, and with 480 devices in the labs, you need clients that are a snap to set up, easy to use, and super reliable,” said Jeff McNaught, Chief Marketing and Strategy officer at Wyse. “The Wyse P20 with PC-over-IP is a natural fit for this application as it’s the most popular zero client for VMware View.”
“Customers worldwide are using Wyse P20 stateless zero clients based on our innovative PC-over-IP technology because they are secure, cost-efficient, and provide exceptional performance on both LANs and WANs as seen in the lab sessions,” said Trent Punnett, vice president, Marketing and Product Management, Teradici Corporation. “In addition, our Security Gateway technology allows one-click secure connectivity to a virtual machine without a VPN. Teradici is excited to be playing such an integral role in the enablement of VMworld 2010 Labs.”
Details of the Labs architecture and network performance are as follows:
- Bandwidth is fixed at dual DS3 (45 Mb) pipes
- PCoIP traffic per session averages 100 Kb - 130 Kbps
-
Total of 480 concurrent sessions:
- 480 Wyse P20 zero clients driving dual monitor desktops (Teradici PCoIP zero client processor onboard)
- Streaming 120 PCoIP session connections to Florida datacenter
- Streaming 120 PCoIP session connections to Virginia datacenter
- Locally running 240 PCoIP connections
- Running VMware View™ 4.5
- Wyse P20s supporting kiosk mode
- View Composer to perform image management
- PCoIP connections exclusively to View Desktops
- Leveraging Teradici PCoIP Security Gateway
- Lab sessions use a Flash driven full screen menu and attendees describe screen motion as extremely smooth, responsive, and crisp.
PCoIP zero clients virtually eliminate the need for desktop management because they have no CPU, application OS, device drivers, fan or hard drive. Significant benefits for IT organizations in healthcare, education, government and other market sectors include: low operational cost, high security, a rich user experience and future-proof desktop scalability.
The Labs also provide a demonstration of Teradici’s future PCoIP Security Gateway technology which provides for one-click secure remote connection and authentication in the DMZ. The Security Gateway provides an end-to-end PCoIP protocol session, and also removes the need for enterprise-class SSL VPNs. Benefits include reduced VDI system cost and configuration issues and lower ongoing support costs. The result is a cost-effective VDI deployment that provides for easy site-to-site authentication of users.
