AVON, Conn.--()--Magellan Health Services, an industry leader in behavioral health care management, announced today the results of a program study indicating that 75 percent of participants in Magellan’s outcomes-based measurement program, Outcomes 360SM, experienced positive behavioral health outcomes and improved accountability. The results of the program study indicate a potential solution for companies seeking to address the 217 million workdays that are completely or partially lost and the approximately $63 billion a year of lost productivity due to mental disorders1.
“Magellan is at the forefront of a movement to instill more transparency into the health care system”
“Magellan is at the forefront of a movement to instill more transparency into the health care system,” said Dr. Joann Albright, senior vice president, Quality, Outcomes and Research. “A major reason why we created Outcomes360 is that outcomes measurement is essential for accountability and transparency in the health care field. Our program has the added benefit of driving meaningful cost-savings for employers.”
Keys to the success of Magellan Outcomes360 are the industry-exclusive proprietary tools that empower members and providers to achieve quicker, more effective outcomes. The tools offer quantitative results in order to improve member functioning in real time, as well as web-based administration and reporting options available to Magellan providers at no cost. And because results are real-time, treatment plans can be quickly adjusted, ultimately yielding more positive outcomes.
These tools, which were developed by Magellan with QualityMetric Incorporated, a leading measurement company, are:
- Adults/Youth: The Short-Form Behavioral Health Assessment (SF-BH TM) and the Consumer Health Inventory (CHI) integrate an individual’s behavioral health services with his or her physical health services by including questions related to the individual’s recent level of physical health functioning and strengths. Individuals can print and share an electronic health status report with their provider instantly and keep a copy for their personal records.
- Children: The Consumer Health Inventory – Child Version (CHI-C) is completed by caregivers and supports children and their parents/guardians in identifying a child’s strengths, level of behavioral health need and number of school absences, all of which have been identified as being important indicators of overall effective behavioral health functioning.
While the Outcomes360 proprietary tools serve as its foundation, the program goes beyond these systems to proactively help participants achieve their wellness goals by improving communication and assisting in self-care management. It also gives behavioral health practitioners objective data to quantify treatment progress.
