IBC2010

MILPITAS, Calif.--()--Sigma Designs (Nasdaq:SIGM), a leading provider of system-on-chip (SoC) solutions used to deliver entertainment and control throughout the home, today announced the immediate availability of RVU®-compatible client software for its high-performance, low-cost media processing chipsets and reference designs. With Sigma’s RVU solution, telco, cable, and satellite customers have a low-cost, high-performance way to distribute premium AV content, from the home gateway to thin client set-top boxes and consumer products, throughout the home. Sigma will exhibit its RVU solutions for the first time at IBC 2010 in the Balcony Suite BM24, on the Mezzanine Level, Hall 1.

“Sigma’s solution accelerates the growth of IP-based audio-video distribution in the home by giving service providers and OEMs the ability to rapidly deploy interoperable consumer products.”

Sigma RVU solutions enable multi-channel service providers to deliver their high-quality content to RVU thin client devices throughout the connected home – with a consistent user interface. OEMs can now rapidly develop and deploy networked consumer products using Sigma’s feature-rich reference designs.

“Our deep expertise in IPTV and connected media players has given us the edge in developing a low-cost, comprehensive connectivity solution using RVU for our cable, satellite, and telco customer base,” said David Lynch, vice president and general manager, media processor business unit at Sigma Designs. “Sigma’s solution accelerates the growth of IP-based audio-video distribution in the home by giving service providers and OEMs the ability to rapidly deploy interoperable consumer products.”

The RVU Remote User Interface provides for the pixel accurate rendering of the service provider’s graphic user interface on a large variety of thin-client displays. The RVU protocol, standardized by the RVU Alliance, is based on existing industry standards (UPnP, DLNA, DTCP-IP).

Sigma’s RVU client software port, which was developed jointly with JetHead Development, augments Sigma’s Adobe Flash, Google Android, Yahoo Widgets, Netflix and OpenGL ES 2.0 software modules.

“By combining our RVU software with Sigma’s great media processors, we help service providers to generate higher revenues, at lower cost,” said Brian Bender, president of JetHead Development.
