Compliance Poster Company Announces California Workers’ Compensation Update in time for October 8, 2010 Deadline

MONROVIA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--California Division of Workers’ Compensation (DWC) has amended regulations pursuant to 8 CCR § 9767.3, et seq., to include the Medical Provider Network (MPN) application process, treatment and change of physician within an MPN, the employer notification requirements, and the notice requirements when terminating, ceasing to use, or changing to a different MPN. The regulations are intended to “streamline” the existing MPN notification process, implement changes to the MPN information, and reflect changes and benefits that have occurred over the last several years, and are particularly timely in light of recent federal health reform legislation.

Compliance Poster Company advises employers that they are required to update their California Labor Law posters to remain in compliance with the applicable regulations effective October 8, 2010. In California, all employers must meet workplace postings obligations. The Department of Industrial Relations requires employers to post information related to areas such as wages, hours and working conditions, and job safety and health protection. These labor laws must be posted in areas frequented by employees where they may be easily read throughout the workday.

Several comment periods, including public hearing testimony, addressing necessary amendments were held over the last year. Among the concerns raised was that of communicating the material in the language spoken by the intended beneficiaries, employees. The regulations now stipulate that material provided for employees must be in English, and in Spanish where there are Spanish-speaking employees.
