Cold Case Database Now Online in Colorado

DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Colorado Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) Cold Case Unit, in partnership with Colorado.gov, today announces the launch of an online Cold Case Database that citizens may access via the official state Web site at www.colorado.gov/coldcase. This is the first time the public will have online access to this data, which was previously managed in paper and computer files.

“CBI would like everyone to view this Web site and consider any information they can provide to help solve a cold case, and assist families and other co-victims to see these cases progress towards resolution”

“CBI would like everyone to view this Web site and consider any information they can provide to help solve a cold case, and assist families and other co-victims to see these cases progress towards resolution,” said CBI Director Ronald C. Sloan.

The database contains information about persons who have been verified by CBI as homicide victims, were reported missing, or whose unidentified remains have been found in Colorado from 1970 to the present. The site also features a searchable database by type of case, county name, law enforcement agency name, victim name, physical description, and year of incident. It also offers RSS feeds so that citizens may stay informed of case developments as the database is updated. Soon, the Cold Case Database will allow users to submit a lead or tip online to local law enforcement agencies or to the CBI.

“CBI hopes that by providing information about these cold cases to the public, citizens throughout the state will be able to assist local law enforcement and the CBI by offering new information that will lead to a resolution of these cases,” said Director Sloan.

This site was developed by Colorado Interactive at no cost to the state. The information on the new Web site has been meticulously verified by CBI over the past three years.

The system’s design was originally derived from Utah.gov’s Cold Case Files web application and redeveloped to CBI’s specifications.
