Dominique Varner and Anabel Hernandez will speak at the Mexican American Bar Association of Houston Retreat and Continuing Legal Education (CLE) Conference, Aug. 27-28 in League City, Texas (www.mabah.com). Varner will lead a discussion of federal loss mitigation programs for home mortgages in a panel entitled, “You Can’t Afford It, But We’ll Help You Keep It.” Hernandez will co-present a teaching panel with the Hon. Jeff Bohm, U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Southern District of Texas, on the effects of both the automatic stay and special events requiring bankruptcy court approval on attorneys practicing family, personal injury, defense and criminal law.
Brendetta Scott will participate as a co-panelist at the Texas Bar CLE Advanced Consumer and Commercial Law Conference, Sept. 2 in Dallas, Texas (www.texasbarcle.com). Scott’s presentation will provide information on evaluating the collectability of a consumer law case. Scott will also speak at the Houston Association of Bankruptcy Paralegals Conference, Nov. 5 in Houston, Texas. Scott will participate as a co-panelist in a panel discussion of how paralegals can collaborate with a lender during bankruptcy proceedings.
Partner Carolyn Taylor will moderate a panel entitled, “Foreclosure Fundamentals: Learn the Basic Building Blocks Necessary for a Solid Business Foundation in Foreclosures,” at The Five Star Default Servicing Conference and Expo on Sept. 20 in Dallas, Texas (www.fivestarconference.com). Taylor’s presentation will focus on providing attorneys, agents and brokers with a working understanding of the vocabulary, paperwork, regulations and business dealings of foreclosure proceedings.
HWA partners Larry Young, Lindsay Lambert and Paul Kellogg will participate in the Debt Collection, Loan Servicing, Foreclosure and Consumer Bankruptcy Conference and the Consumer Credit 2010 Conference, Oct. 28-29 in Southlake, Texas. The conferences are hosted annually by the Credit Law Institute and the Conference on Consumer Finance Law (www.thecreditlawinstitute.com). Young, Lambert and Kellogg will provide an update on current issues in consumer finance law, including Texas litigation and regulation. Additionally, Young and Lambert will participate in a panel discussing regulatory and litigation developments in debt collection and with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
