SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif.--()--GT Beverage Company, LLC, a privately held company, has developed the ideal school-approved beverage. With childhood obesity at an all-time high, schools are looking for ways to promote healthy lifestyle choices in the foods that children eat. In doing so, school systems are eliminating high sugar and calorie-filled foods and beverages and replacing them with healthy alternatives. Sportastic™ Sports Drink offers a unique and innovative approach to attracting students: a round, spherical bottle with fun sports-theme designs.
“The SNA was instrumental by assisting our company in identifying interested school districts including: California, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Missouri, Kentucky, Texas and others for distribution of Sportastic™ Sports Drinks. We are looking forward to a successful year in this market as well as the retail and international markets.”
Until recently, there has never been a sports drink approved by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) as a diabetic friendly beverage. Other sports drinks contain substantial amounts of sugar and carbohydrates. In addition, childhood obesity greatly increases the risk of obesity through adulthood.
Sportastic™ has been identified as an acceptable sports drink for diabetics and has been approved by scientists at the Junior Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). In 2009, the drink was nominated by CSP Retailer Choice Magazine for "Best New Packaging." The drinks contain only 4 grams of sugar, 4 carbohydrates and 15 calories in a 12 ounce bottle. Sportastic is formulated with vitamins B5, B6, and B12, along with calcium, magnesium, potassium and niacin to help replenish and rehydrate the body. Depending on school guidelines, electrolytes may be included or removed from the drinks.
GT Beverage Company has joined the School Nutrition Association (SNA). Tom Weiss, President of GT Beverage Company states: “The SNA was instrumental by assisting our company in identifying interested school districts including: California, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Missouri, Kentucky, Texas and others for distribution of Sportastic™ Sports Drinks. We are looking forward to a successful year in this market as well as the retail and international markets.”
The line of Sportastic™ sports-themed beverages is sold across the nation in 50 states (Walmart, Walgreens, Kroger, Fred Meyer, BigLots!, and many others) including Hawaii and Alaska. International sales will include Puerto Rico, Mexico, Canada, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. The company anticipates additional sales in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and United Kingdom.
