Foreground Security Qualifies for DEFCON 18 Capture the Flag Competition with “Painsec” Team

ORLANDO, Fla.--()--Foreground Security today announced that three of its Security Analysts have qualified for the Capture the Flag (CTF) contest at DEFCON 18, from July 30 – August 1, 2010 in Las Vegas, NV. As part of the eight-person Painsec team, the Foreground Security Analysts competed against 537 other teams worldwide to qualify in sixth position. The DEFCON CTF is a global competition where only the top ten teams from around the world compete head-to-head to claim victory as the best hacking team for the year.

“Foreground Security employs some of the smartest and insightful security professionals in the industry and it is an incredible achievement that the Painsec team has made it to the finals in DEFCON Capture the Flag only two months after the team was officially created,” said Dave Amsler, President of Foreground Security. “Many people work and practice for years just to place in this competition. The performance of our team members is perfect validation of the superior knowledge and expertise Foreground provides its clients.”

Founded by Jose Carlos de Arriba Rodriguez, a Security Analyst at Foreground, and including two other Foreground Analysts, Jonathan Tomek and Ben Nell, the Painsec team specializes in web exploitation, reverse engineering, binary exploitation, malware analysis, digital forensics, cryptography, and heavy scripting skills. More information can be found on the team’s website: http://www.painsec.com.

The DEFCON 18 Capture the Flag competition focuses on attacking other team’s machines trying to steal or over-write their “flags” in the attempt to place their own flag on that machine. The point system or target will be revealed during the DEFCON event.
