Vovici Calls on Industry to Develop Social Media Research Guidelines

Jeffrey Henning To Speak at CASRO Technology Conference

Summary: Every minute consumers are having authentic conversations about brands, products and policies on Facebook, Twitter, blogs, forums and other websites. Companies can now eavesdrop and learn what individuals are really talking about, outside of the artificial settings of focus groups and web surveys. Meanwhile, text mining and social media monitoring applications are delivering all of these comments right to interested researchers in easily analyzed formats. But what do consumers think of this? Unlike with traditional ethnography, they have not given market researchers explicit permission to study them online. To explore this, Jeffrey Henning will present the results of a recent survey of 400 U.S. consumers, which identified significant differences between public and professional perceptions of privacy.
