WILLOW GROVE, Pa.--()--NMS Labs has become one of the few independent forensic laboratories to be approved for the prestigious ISO/IEC 17025:2005 accreditation by the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors, Laboratory Accreditation Board (ASCLD-LAB). NMS Labs was specifically accredited in the categories of controlled substance identification, nuclear DNA, serology, and trace evidence testing in hair, fiber and textiles. This accreditation standard is an example of the new international standard in operational and scientific excellence for crime laboratories, and was one of the model accreditation programs referred to by the National Academies of Science (NAS) in its critical report last year on “Strengthening Forensic Science in the United States – A Path Forward”.
“With this recognition by ASCLD-LAB of our quality standards, NMS Labs looks forward to continued successful partnerships with public laboratories in analysis of controlled substances, DNA casework, and trace evidence”
“This is a standard that both public and private crime laboratories across the United States are striving towards, and we are proud of this validation of the quality of our services. We are an organization dedicated to excellence in science, and we have for years embodied the goals outlined by the NAS Report,” said Barry Logan, Ph.D., National Director of Forensic Services, at NMS Labs. “With this recognition by ASCLD-LAB of our quality standards, NMS Labs looks forward to continued successful partnerships with public laboratories in analysis of controlled substances, DNA casework, and trace evidence,” added Dr. Logan.
NMS Labs ASCLD/LAB-International accreditation is subject for renewal every five years. In the interim, the lab undergoes annual assessments, internal audits and proficiency testing. NMS Labs offers its testing menu to law enforcement, laboratories and others requiring such services and specializes in comprehensive drug identification, complex DNA and serology cases requiring short turnaround times, backlog reduction projects, and other forms of assistance.
