Roving Networks Acquires G2 Microsystems Wi-Fi Technology

Company to Manufacture and Sell the G2547/G2543, Ultra-Low Power 802.11 b/g SOCs and Modules

LOS GATOS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Roving Networks, a leading provider of wireless solutions, has acquired the assets and exclusive manufacturing rights of G2 Microsystems ultra-low power Wi-Fi System On Chip (SOC) technology. The addition broadens Roving Network’s markets, extends its customer base and enables a new class of low-cost, low power 802.11 b/g Wireless LAN enabled products.

“It’s possible to build entire products such as Wi-Fi sensors, data acquisition and control systems at ultra low power levels and without need for additional hardware resources. We can now offer customers a turn-key custom internet enabled product or a cost effective single chip Wi-Fi solution.”

As a long time development partner of G2 Microsystems, Roving Networks brought to market several Wi-Fi modules and products based on the G2547/G2543 technology. Roving will continue to sell these products alongside G2 Microsystems SOC and module solutions. Customers have the choice of creating their Wi-Fi system with Roving’s easy to use pre-built Wi-Fi interface, or develop their own application firmware.

“We are very excited about the many new opportunities this acquisition creates,” explained Michael Conrad, Founder and CEO of Roving Networks. “It’s possible to build entire products such as Wi-Fi sensors, data acquisition and control systems at ultra low power levels and without need for additional hardware resources. We can now offer customers a turn-key custom internet enabled product or a cost effective single chip Wi-Fi solution.”

Several key G2 engineers have joined Roving Networks to develop new Wi-Fi modules and support existing customers. This acquisition uniquely positions Roving Networks as the only solutions provider to offer a comprehensive line of low-power Wi-Fi choices, from chips, to integrated modules, to Wi-Fi sub-systems, to complete solutions. Roving Networks products are used in remote sensors, cable replacement, smart home controllers factory automation and many other.

Roving Networks 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi technology is an ultra-low power (4uA sleep, 40mA active), complete TCP/IP single QFP SOC that does not require an external processor or host stack. The Roving Networks Wi-Fi module is FCC and Wi-Fi Alliance certified and comes in a compact surface mount package with on-board chip antenna and U.FL external antenna connector.
