NEW YORK--()--Years ago, Frederick Wildman and Sons was known as a “French importer.” But over the years, and into the 21st century, it has grown immensely, and today, is truly international. Frederick Wildman and Sons, Ltd., is most privileged to announce the addition of Marziano Abbona, wines from Piedmont, to its portfolio. Offering a range of elegant and approachable wines that combine tradition with a modern style, the Dolcettos, Barberas and Barolos of Marziano Abbona reflect the philosophy of respect for the natural characters of the vineyard and grapes.
“Abbona is a producer from the Dogliani in Northern Italy offering ‘new classics’ that are elegant, sophisticated and handcrafted—very much in line with Wildman’s portfolio of fine wines. “”
“Grapes should be the product of simple, harmonious wine growing,” explained Marziano, third-generation owner of Abbona. “Passion, combined with experience technology and careful wine-making, transform the finest primary material into an accurate expression of the vineyard,” continued Abbona.
The vineyard holdings for Marziano Abbona include some of the finest in the area—42 in total—including Dogliani (25 ha), and in the Barolo communes of Novello (6 ha) and Monforte (11 ha). The Marziano Abbona estate is also home to the rare single-vineyard Dolcetto Superiore, “Papa Celso”—a “tre bicchieri” veteran. Marziano Abbona’s winemaking uses closed stainless-steel tanks at controlled temperatures with frequent pumping over, to extract more color and less harsh tannins. Early malolactic fermentation is employed to give his wines supple and smooth textures as well as more expressive fruit characters.
The brand will be offered through Wildman’s national business nationally, as well as through the company’s direct distribution business in New York and New Jersey. Suggested retail prices for the entire line will range from $16 for Dolcetto; $20 for Barbera and up to $60 for Barolos.
“The success of Wildman over the years has been our ability to grow with the industry, bring quality brands to the marketplace, and keep up with the trends”, expressed President, Richard Cacciato. “Abbona is a producer from the Dogliani in Northern Italy offering ‘new classics’ that are elegant, sophisticated and handcrafted—very much in line with Wildman’s portfolio of fine wines. “
