Beck Announces the Grand Opening of Domain 2, the Second Phase of the Domain Project

AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Beck Group announces the completion of the second phase of the Domain project in Austin, Texas, called Domain 2. The new mixed-use, pedestrian oriented lifestyle center opened to the public late in February, 2010. Beck provided both Architectural and Construction Management services for Simon Property Group on this latest phase of the master planned retail and mixed-use community. Domain 2 consists of 500,000 SF of retail space, 75,000 SF of office space, a parking structure and pedestrian plaza.

Located adjacent to The Domain, residents and shoppers have continuous flow of movement between the two retail centers. Domain 2 features vibrant landscaping and intimate passageways that enhance the pedestrian experience while walking between the movie theater and major retail anchors. Designed by JPRA, Domain 2 adds to the architectural framework of the modern, high-end retail theme of the Domain.

The Beck Integrated Enterprise allowed design and construction team members to be a part of the project from the initial conceptual planning meetings through final completion of construction. Construction team members provided input on logistics, budget and schedule items during design development; while architectural team members stayed on-site throughout the construction process to provide immediate input that ultimately reduced the construction schedule. This unique approach allowed Simon to realize efficiencies that showed quantifiable results through dramatically reduced RFI’s and change orders, as well as an overall condensed design and construction schedule.
