Consumers Start Year Off Strong with More than $6.5 Million in Savings Using Online Coupons

MELBOURNE, Australia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--RetailMeNot.com, a top consumer destination for coupons, discounts and promotional codes for merchandise, groceries, travel and services, today announced the release of its January Consumer Coupon Report, which offers a comprehensive look at consumer coupon usage for both online coupon codes and printable coupons. As the most highly trafficked coupon website and the only website with more than 400,000 coupons for both online and in-store discounts, RetailMeNot.com is in a unique position to track trends within the coupon industry.

Retailers generated approximately $34 million in sales through RetailMeNot.com in January, more than a 61 percent increase compared to the same time last year ($21.1 million in 2009). In January, more than 14.7 million consumers visited RetailMeNot.com and saved $6.5 million using online coupon codes and $1.6 million with printable coupons. Community members continue to be active in 2010, sharing more than 27,000 coupons and submitting more than 570,000 votes and 21,000 comments on the reliability of the coupons.

The top online coupon in January was for Free Shipping for Kohl’s card holders, which received more than 50,000 clicks. The top national printable coupon download in January was, once again, 20 percent off of a total purchase at Gap. Food and Apparel were the most searched categories in printable coupons. Residents of New Jersey continue to top the list of states using printable coupons, retaining the spot they have held since the end of 2009, while residents of New York were the most frequent users of online coupons.
