SIMSBURY, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc. (NYSE: HIG) announced today that it has been selected to provide group life, long-term disability, and accidental death and dismemberment insurance coverage for the 2,300 employees of the City of Chattanooga.

“Our flexible benefits solutions allow us to match existing plan designs, accommodate collective bargaining agreements, and complement public employee and state teacher retirement systems.”

“We appreciate this opportunity to provide services that help protect and grow the health and wealth of the employees of the City of Chattanooga,” said Ron Gendreau, executive vice president of The Hartford’s Group Benefits Division. “We are committed to providing unequaled expertise, superior service, and innovative products to those in public service.”

Eligible Chattanooga government and school employees will be provided with The Hartford’s insurance. Designed to emphasize ability, The Hartford’s long-term disability coverage provides vocational and job placement services, work-related guidance and resources, and emotional, legal and financial help.

“We believe what one’s heart, mind and body can accomplish is limitless with the right resources and support,” said Gendreau. “Our Ability Philosophy, which is embodied in our products and services, helps individuals return to active, productive lives following a disability.”

Included in their group life coverage with The Hartford, City of Chattanooga employees will have funeral planning benefits available at no additional out-of-pocket cost to them. Life Conversations from The Hartford provides an industry-leading package of end-of-life services, including funeral planning and online will preparation services. The program also provides employees with travel assistance, including medical assistance and planning services.

The City of Chattanooga joins the more than 1,100 public employers whose employees’ livelihoods are supported by The Hartford’s group benefits, including disability, life, accidental death and dismemberment, and group retiree health insurance. Most recently, the State of Arizona and the County of San Bernardino, Calif., have selected The Hartford to provide income protection to their employees.

“We have proudly served public employers for more than 30 years,” said Gendreau. “Our flexible benefits solutions allow us to match existing plan designs, accommodate collective bargaining agreements, and complement public employee and state teacher retirement systems.”
