PITTSBURGH--()--The Indiana Department of Education has approved Carnegie Learning® custom Indiana state editions of the publisher’s Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and Integrated Math series textbooks, as well as the Cognitive Tutor® Software as adopted high school mathematics curricula through June 30, 2016.
“We hope to see more states follow suit as the education industry raises its standards and moves toward research-based solutions that incorporate data-driven, individualized instruction.”
The criteria for selection include alignment to Core Standards for math and the state’s Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II course descriptions for mathematics. In the state textbook adoption process, the Indiana State Board of Education stresses that rigor must be preserved and materials must align with Indiana’s learning standards, and advocates for the use of technologically enabled learning materials.
Carnegie Learning® Curricula are aligned to state and most district standards and to the five content strands of the standards set by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. Carnegie Learning also develops custom mathematics programs in response to state and district math requirements. Carnegie Learning® Custom Curricula are available in Indiana, Georgia, West Virginia, and Hamilton County Schools in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
“Carnegie Learning® Math Curricula have been key drivers of student improvement in math for the past two years,” said Linda Thompson, director of curriculum, instruction, and assessment in Carmel Clay Schools near Indianapolis. “The collaborative focus of the programs and the emphasis on the real-world application of math is improving our students’ conceptual understanding and problem-solving which is resulting in higher test scores and passing rates.”
Carnegie Learning® Math Curricula are adopted in fourteen states: Alaska, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, and West Virginia.
“The Indiana State Board of Education is progressive in its understanding of the value of blending textbooks and software into a highly effective curricula model,” said Dennis Ciccone, chief executive officer of Carnegie Learning, Inc. “We hope to see more states follow suit as the education industry raises its standards and moves toward research-based solutions that incorporate data-driven, individualized instruction.”
