SANTA MONICA, Calif.--()--Green Car Journal, the leading resource for information regarding exciting and environmentally positive vehicles, named the Audi A3 TDI as the Green Car of the Year® for 2010. The award recognizes new model vehicles that provide real answers for new car buyers looking for a personal stake in lessening environmental impact.

“The Audi A3 TDI is an exceptional vehicle that ‘green car’ enthusiasts would be proud to drive”

Finalists for Green Car Journal's 2010 Green Car of the Year® award also included the Honda Insight, Mercury Milan Hybrid, Toyota Prius, and Volkswagen Golf TDI. This year’s winner was unveiled at a press conference at the Los Angeles Auto Show this week. All finalists and additional details regarding the Audi A3 TDI are currently featured on GreenCar.com.

“The Audi A3 TDI is an exceptional vehicle that ‘green car’ enthusiasts would be proud to drive,” says Ron Cogan, editor and publisher of the Green Car Journal and editor of GreenCar.com. “Without exotic technology or special measures, it achieves lower CO2 greenhouse gas emissions and highway fuel economy of 42 mpg, the best highway fuel efficiency of any vehicle in the luxury segment. Plus, the A3 TDI offers loads of low-end torque and is fun to drive. Its sportiness, luxury overtones, and good looks simply add to this ‘green’ car’s appeal.”

Vehicles using all types of technologies, fuels, and powerplants are eligible for the Green Car of the Year® program. To qualify for consideration as a nominee, a vehicle must exhibit characteristics that substantially raise the bar in environmental performance and be in production by January 1 of the award year. Plus, a potential nominee must be driven by Green Car Journal to allow experiencing driving dynamics first-hand.

The 2010 Green Car of the Year® is selected by a jury that includes: Carl Pope, executive director of the Sierra Club; Jean-Michel Cousteau, president of Ocean Futures Society; Alan Lloyd, president of the International Council on Clean Transportation; Matt Petersen, president of Global Green USA; automotive expert and television personality, Jay Leno; automotive icon Carroll Shelby; and Green Car Journal staff.
