Femtocells go Green

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Next week in San Diego will see operators from around the globe meeting to discuss the latest developments in Femtocells and debate the best way to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions from the world’s cellular networks.

With commercial launches of Femtocells in 3 major continents, and China soon to announce a major femtocell deployment there is growing opportunity for the consumer to own and operate a mini basestation in their home. The burning question however is are these just a fill in for poor in building coverage or will we see compelling new applications delivered by Femtocells to the handset that will make us all want to own one.

A further development of Femtocells is the push into the enterprise sector where business use is seen as an option to achieve greater margins and value add for the femtocell concept. This will be a main topic of debate at the Femtocells Americas Conference next week in San Diego with Verizon Wireless, Softbank Japan, Telefonica 02, Nokia Siemens Networks, Cellcom, Cisco and Airwalk all participating in the panel. In addition, Sprint, AT&T, Comcast, DoCoMo, Telus and Wind will be presenting on their latest strategies for bringing femtocells to market.
