Toshiba Packs Power, Not Price Into New Ultra-Thin Laptops

Sleek and Slim Satellite T100 Series Delivers Laptop-Class Performance With Windows 7, Intel Ultra-Low Voltage Processors and “All-Work Day” Battery Life

IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Toshiba’s Digital Products Division (DPD), a division of Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., today unveiled the Toshiba Satellite® T100 Series, a new class of consumer ultra-thin laptops designed to meet the demands of everyday mobility with laptop-class performance and all-work day battery life – with price points starting at $449.991.

“Consumers have always desired fast performance and sleek design, but these preferences have traditionally carried the burdens of premium pricing and short battery life”

Measuring less than one inch thick and starting at 3.49 pounds2, the slim and sleek Satellite T100 Series laptops do not cut corners on features or performance. With Windows® 7 and power-efficient Intel® ultra-low voltage processors, the new ultra-thin laptops have the performance, flexibility and functionality consumers have come to expect from standard-sized laptops, yet in a highly portable package.

Setting the standard for the next generation of mobile computing, Satellite T100 Series laptops are ready at a moment’s notice, including extremely fast resume from standby times and power saving enhancements that deliver up to 9 hours of battery life3.

“Toshiba has a long history of engineering laptops in highly compact form factors with value-added elements that enhance the mobile computing experience,” said Carl Pinto, vice president, product development, Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., Digital Products Division. “These new ultra-thin laptops reflect the next step in Toshiba laptop innovation, delivering the perfect balance of performance, mobility and style, and broaden our portfolio of ultra-mobile offerings, giving consumers more choice.”

Toshiba’s ultra-thin laptops will be available in two screen sizes and various color options. The Satellite T135 features a 13.3-inch diagonal widescreen display and will be available with Toshiba’s Fusion™ Finish in Nova Red, Nova Black and Nova White. The Satellite T115 offers an 11.6-inch diagonal widescreen display and will be available in Nova Red and Nova Black. Designed to be stylish both inside and out, Toshiba’s Fusion Finish design extends inside the laptop, around the keyboard, touch pad and the display.

“Consumers have always desired fast performance and sleek design, but these preferences have traditionally carried the burdens of premium pricing and short battery life,” said Richard Shim, research manager with IDC. “Those burdens are being eased as new ultra-thin notebooks hit the market, giving consumers unprecedented portability at the most aggressive price points for their class in the history of the PC industry.”

With a Satellite T100 Series laptop, consumers can now enjoy a broad-range of functionality, from a great Internet experience, to enjoying digital music and videos to staying productive and connected to friends, family and coworkers – all with the flexibility of a travel-friendly form factor.

Lightweight, But Not Light on Features

The Satellite T100 Series laptops are engineered to feature the comfort and convenience of a standard laptop yet in an ultra-thin package. The laptops feature full-sized keyboards and full-sized Touch Pads with Multi-touch Control, enabling greater flexibility to browse and control what’s happening on-screen with gesture commands, such as two-finger pinch, swipe, rotate and scroll.

Equipped with Windows® 7 Home Premium, spacious hard drives, ultra-fast DDR3 memory and lots of expansion ports, including HDMI-out, the laptops have the horsepower to handle the day’s tasks or evening’s entertainment. Built-in Wireless N technology and Bluetooth® (available on select models) keeps users productive, online and in touch.

Smart Features for Greater Mobility

Toshiba’s Satellite T100 Series laptops also include a Hard Drive Impact Sensor that helps guard data from the daily bumps of mobile life and a USB port with Sleep-and-Charge technology4, which enables users to charge various consumer electronics, even when the laptop is turned off. A built-in Webcam with Face Recognition makes logging in hassle-free and live chat possible from anywhere, and a standard one-year limited international warranty makes traveling more worry-free.

Sustainable and Eco-conscious

These new laptops are designed to be environmentally conscious, with a power-efficient, mercury-free LED backlit display, and are RoHS compatible, effectively reducing the environmental impact by restricting the use of lead, mercury, cadmium and certain other hazardous substances. The Satellite T135 and Satellite T115 meet the rigorous requirements of the EnergyStar® 5.0 standard and achieved industry-leading Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) Gold status.
