Morganti Receives “2009 Commercial Airport Project of the Year” Award from the Florida Department of Transportation

Key West International Airport Recognized at the Florida Airports Council Conference

MIAMI BEACH, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Morganti Group received the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) “2009 Commercial Airport Project of the Year” award at the Florida Airports Council Conference, recognizing its collaborative work with Monroe County on the Key West International Airport McCoy Terminal renovation project.

“Our primary goal was to retain the character and charm of Key West through preserving designed elements, while incorporating the latest FAA required security features and controlling costs”

“The Florida Department of Transportation applauds Morganti for its vision and execution of the McCoy Terminal renovation project,” said FDOT Secretary Stephanie Kopelousos. “Continuing to improve our airports and offering ease of travel and safety to our residents and visitors is a top priority.”

Each year, the FDOT recognizes superior achievement by presenting awards in honor of the Aviation Professional of the Year, Commercial Service of the Year, Community Airport of the Year, and Airport Project of the Year.

“We are excited to bring the Key West International Airport to life,” said Morganti Vice President Jim Auld. “As Construction Managers we have been committed to adhering to the highest quality and passenger safety standards while doing so. Our hope is that this project becomes a model for communities across the country. We also applaud and share this recognition with our partner, Monroe County, for its commitment to this project.”

Morganti completed the renovation under the Construction Manager At Risk format, a revolutionary process that virtually eliminates conflicts and change orders at the end of major projects.

“Our primary goal was to retain the character and charm of Key West through preserving designed elements, while incorporating the latest FAA required security features and controlling costs,” said Auld.

As the Construction Manager At Risk for the KWIA terminal renovation project, Morganti was hired to oversee the 50,000 sq. ft. addition to the existing airport.

Morganti has extensive experience managing aviation projects and has completed projects at Palm Beach Int’l Airport; Bush IAH Airport in Houston, TX; Austin-Bergstrom Int'l Airport Passenger Terminal in Austin, TX; and Washington National Airport’s new terminal in DC.

Founded by John Morganti in 1920, Morganti has grown from a small family owned Connecticut general contracting firm to a major international construction management organization and a leader in construction industry techniques. For more information visit www.morganti.com.
