LONDON--()--The Real Greek has found that most people have no idea how many calories are in simple food items such as an apple or a cheese sandwich.
“The results of our survey prove that there's a real need for transparency when it comes to nutritional information, and we're really proud to be the first restaurant group to provide diners with this.”
The restaurant group, which has become the first in the UK to include the calorie content of its dishes on its menu, surveyed 1000 people to find out their perception of the calories found in everyday foods.
The results of the survey showed that 68% of people thought that a fillet steak (which contains 210 calories) had more calories than a cheese sandwich which has over 260 calories. 52% of people surveyed thought a chicken skewer, which on average has 176 calories, contained higher calories than a bowl of cereal, which can contain up to 400 calories.
Other shocking results include 45% of people thinking an apple, which contains an average 79 calories, contained more calories than a portion of rice, which contains over 400.
Liz Williams, Managing Director, The Real Greek, said: “The results of our survey prove that there's a real need for transparency when it comes to nutritional information, and we're really proud to be the first restaurant group to provide diners with this."
