Ixia Transmits 100 Gbps of Ethernet Traffic Through Industry-Standard CFP-Compatible 40/100 Gbs Optical Modules

CALABASAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Ixia (NASDAQ: XXIA), a leading, global provider of IP performance test systems, today announced that in an industry-first, its higher speed Ethernet (HSE) IEEE 802.3ba-compliant test equipment was used to successfully transmit and receive Ethernet traffic at 100 Gbps through a CFP Multi-Source Agreement (MSA) compatible optical module. The HSE load module, known as K2 by industry insiders, is capable of transmitting and receiving full line-rate 100 Gbps Ethernet traffic. Ixia’s HSE products will be on display in Ixia’s booth (#1813) at Interop, Las Vegas from May 19 to 21.

The CFP MSA is the first industry standard to support next generation Ethernet optical transceiver interfaces for both 100 Gb/s Ethernet (100GbE) and 40 Gb/s (40GbE). The CFP MSA defines the form factor of a hot-swappable optical transceiver supporting 40/100 GE and uses transceiver electrical interface consisting of multiple 10 Gbps lanes.

Ixia’s CFP usage demonstrates the feasibility of pluggable optics for both 40/100 GE. The MSA optical transceiver is hot pluggable and its size is about the same length but double the width of the XENPAK 10GbE module.
