ATLANTA--()--Eclipsys Corporation® (NASDAQ:ECLP), The Outcomes Company®, today announced that United Hospital System (UHS) located in Kenosha, WI, has selected a wide range of the company’s clinical, ambulatory and performance management solutions to support high-quality patient care. As part of the net-new client agreement, UHS will implement a suite of Eclipsys’ clinical applications, which reside on the Eclipsys XA extended architecture™ platform, along with the company’s award-winning PeakPractice PM™ practice management (PM) solution. By transitioning from disparate information systems to an integrated technology platform that extends into the emergency department and outpatient settings, UHS expects to achieve expanded, enterprise-wide clinical workflows and a seamless care environment for physicians and patients in support of improved efficiency, clinical decision making and patient satisfaction.
“We are pleased United Hospital System has selected Eclipsys as its strategic partner to help implement its vision of integrated clinical workflows across its care environments”
UHS will implement Eclipsys’ integrated Sunrise Enterprise™ clinical solutions —Sunrise Clinical Manager™, Sunrise Pharmacy™, Sunrise Critical Care™, Sunrise Emergency Care™, Knowledge-Based Medication Administration™ and Knowledge-Based Charting™. Once activated, these solutions will help clinicians to automate key healthcare processes, such as clinical documentation and medication ordering protocols, as well as make use of an enterprise-wide acute care electronic medical record (EMR) to access the latest patient information across multiple departments without administrative disruptions. In addition, the applications will aid in creating a closed-loop integrated medication management environment in support of efficient, safe dispensing of medications within the hospital pharmacy and at the bedside.
Use of Same Clinical Database for Acute Care and Ambulatory Settings
Eclipsys’ Sunrise Ambulatory Care™ solution, which also resides on the XA™ platform, has been selected for clinical documentation and care decisions in UHS’ physician clinics to promote tighter clinical integration with UHS’ physician group. By using the same clinical database for both acute care and ambulatory settings, physicians across the UHS campus will be positioned to improve collaboration with peers, gain unified views of the latest patient information regardless of care setting and eliminate the need for redundant charting.
To support the administrative aspects of care, UHS physician clinics will adopt PeakPractice PM, a component of Eclipsys’ integrated, award-winning, .NET-based ambulatory EMR/PM solution. The PM system is expected to help UHS clinics reduce administrative costs and improve cash flow with tools that support appointment scheduling, registration, eligibility, billing and claims processing.
Rounding out the technology initiative, UHS has selected Sunrise Clinical Analytics™, Eclipsys’ healthcare business intelligence solution, to help the organization better track and measure clinical performance and identify ways in which clinician actions affect patient outcomes and clinical costs. In combination, the investment in all of the advanced technologies also will give UHS a greatly enhanced ability to monitor and improve quality metrics performance and address quality reporting, including the reporting requirements of U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Core Measures and non-reimbursable conditions.
UHS has elected to remote host their IT infrastructure with Eclipsys’ Technology Solutions Center. Currently 40 percent of the company’s clients rely upon its world-class, ISO 9001:2000-certified, 24/7 data center to ensure mission critical application performance, customer support, security and disaster recovery.
“We are pleased United Hospital System has selected Eclipsys as its strategic partner to help implement its vision of integrated clinical workflows across its care environments,” said Jay Deady, Eclipsys’ executive vice president of Client Solutions. “We are proud of our track record in designing and delivering software and service solutions requirements for large and complex healthcare delivery systems that recognize the value in leveraging our advanced technology platform. This new client partnership reaffirms the breadth and depth of our company’s portfolio of offerings. We look forward to supporting UHS with our 'speed to value' implementation approach to accelerate their activation and support establishing an EHR system that is fully operational with broad utilization prior to October 2010, when federal economic stimulus package incentives for hospitals take effect.”
