Physician Groups Come Together to Promote Coordinated Care

Benefits of Coordinated Care Advanced

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--A collection of America’s premier physician groups, independent practice associations and medical groups have formed a coalition aimed at putting the patient first by working with the Obama Administration and the 111th Congress to reform America’s health care system. Physician Groups for Coordinated Care (PGCC) will champion the implementation of payment methodologies, like those used in Medicare Advantage, that support accountable, coordinated care infrastructures and that provide incentives for higher quality patient care and better patient outcomes.

“We know we can make a positive difference in this ongoing debate and look forward to working with this President, his new administration, and Congress to improve the quality of health care for all Americans.”

“Physician Groups are essential to any successful health care reform plan,” said PGCC spokesperson Don Crane. “We are a key part of the solution to fixing many of the most pressing problems in the current health care system.”

Crane stressed that the coalition partners were united around seven core principles:

  • The Coordination of Care Through Organized Groups of Physicians,
  • Expanded Use of Payment Methodologies that Encourage Physician Collaboration,
  • Effective Preventive and Chronic Care Management,
  • The Deployment and Use of Health IT to Support The Coordination Delivery of the Right Care at the Right Time,
  • Accountability for all Health Care Physicians and Providers,
  • The Use of Economic Incentives to Achieve Superior Performance, and
  • The Organization and Development of Physician Groups Across the Nation.

Spokesman Don Crane further emphasized that PGCC applauds President Obama for elevating the importance of health care to the top tier of his agenda. “We know we can make a positive difference in this ongoing debate and look forward to working with this President, his new administration, and Congress to improve the quality of health care for all Americans.”
