HERNDON, Va.--()--NetWitness Corporation, the leading provider of next generation network security monitoring technology, announced today that it has recently been awarded enterprise-level contracts with two of the top 10 U.S. financial services institutions. In both cases, the implementation of the NetWitness’ flagship NextGen™ platform lowers the risks associated with organized crime and state-sponsored groups, increasing each organization’s visibility into complex cyber security problems, and to manage the growing risks associated with insider threats and compliance verification gaps.
“Recent events across the global financial services sector have heightened the criticality of the business requirements for deeper visibility into advanced persistent threats from state sponsored and organized crime groups”
Case Studies
One top U.S. bank is deploying an array of NetWitness infrastructure appliances to provide pervasive full packet capture and session analysis capabilities across the organization’s Internet gateways and core switches. Although the organization has already invested heavily in legacy monitoring technologies and point security solutions, the bank’s security team determined that NetWitness Investigator dramatically shortened the exposure time between threat identification to problem resolution. Additionally, the security team deployed NetWitness Informer to provide unique live threat intelligence for complex threats such as attacks by organized crime groups, information asset misuse by privileged employees such as systems administrators, and the use of “policy evasion” technologies such as unauthorized tunneling and rogue encryption.
The other top-10 bank is employing its NetWitness NextGen infrastructure and analytical applications as a core component of its Cyber Threat Intelligence solution. The bank has committed to an aggressive threat intelligence initiative to understand the true nature of all standard and non-standard Internet Protocol Suite (TCP/IP) traffic on its network. With NetWitness NextGen, the bank’s security team is able to differentiate legitimate bank communications from rogue network traffic, and quickly track down the source of emerging problems, and the pathology of the original incursion - reducing its exposure time to minimize risk. This approach is improving the bank’s ability to proactively reduce the risks associated with advanced persistent threats from state-sponsored and organized crime groups and to identify complex data leakage, exfiltration, and designer malware challenges.
“Recent events across the global financial services sector have heightened the criticality of the business requirements for deeper visibility into advanced persistent threats from state sponsored and organized crime groups,” stated Eddie Schwartz, Chief Security Officer, NetWitness Corporation and former CISO of Nationwide Insurance. “Bad actors have intensified their efforts during these economically erratic times, and market turmoil has increased the threat posed by disgruntled insiders and employees. Organizations can better protect themselves by leveraging the unique analytic capabilities provided by NetWitness NextGen.”
