CARLSBAD, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Christopher Reeve gave hope to those with spinal cord injuries (SCI). Michael Thomas gave them somewhere to go, to beat the odds.
Mr. Thomas was diagnosed with a C-7 spinal cord injury in 1998 and was told that he had about a 3% chance of ever walking again after returning home to San Diego. In order to beat those odds, his wife Betsy set up a meeting with Ted Dardzinski, a local sports injury trainer. The results of that meeting were: 1. Michael learned to walk again; 2. The Dardzinski Method was developed; 3. Project Walk was born.
Project Walk is a unique SCI recovery center, located in Carlsbad, CA and is recognized as the pioneer of exercise based recovery. This center has put San Diego on the map and at the forefront of SCI treatment. Our clients come from around the world.
On Saturday, November 1 from 1 pm – 5 pm, we are celebrating our ninth year of operations with an event called “Steps to Recovery.” Featuring spinal cord injury clients who will be taking steps after being given little or no hope of ever walking again, all proceeds from the silent auction will go directly towards scholarships. Some clients will be taking their first steps post injury; others will be increasing the distance of steps taken previously.
