SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Stion (www.stion.com), a next-generation solar photovoltaic company developing high-efficiency thin-film modules using proprietary materials and device structures, announced that it has hired Steven Aragon, who has 20 years of experience in thin-film materials, processes, and systems, as Vice President of Engineering. Dr. Aragon will report to COO Vineet Dharmadhikari and will lead Stion’s efforts to scale up and optimize its product.
Dr. Aragon joins Stion from Daystar Technologies, a publicly traded manufacturer of thin-film photovoltaics, where he also worked as Vice President of Engineering.
“Steve’s first-hand experience in building production lines and scaling up thin-film products is a great fit for Stion as we set up our initial manufacturing capabilities,” said Chet Farris, Stion’s President and CEO. “His industry expertise will be a tremendous asset.”
Prior to joining Daystar, Dr. Aragon served as Program Manager for DC Plasma Power Products at Advanced Energy Industries, a $650 million company that provides leading power and flow technologies for thin-film manufacturing and solar power applications. While at Advanced Energy, Dr. Aragon was responsible for design, development, and implementation of new product platforms that are now the flagship products in AE’s thin-film solar line.
Dr. Aragon also spent 12 years in a variety of process engineering and process application roles with SciVac/Optcom and Intevac Systems. While at Intevac, he established the company’s state-of-the-art Applications Research Center, consisting of the world’s most advanced MDP technology in a Class 10 pilot line. He has a PhD and MS in Physical Chemistry from the University of California, an MBA in Finance from Santa Clara University, and a BA in Chemistry from the University of Northern Colorado. He holds two U.S. patents.
Stion was founded in 2006, and its technology is based on the work of Dr. Howard Lee, a leading researcher in nanotechnology and semiconductor materials and devices with 29 years of corporate, government and R&D experience. Chet Farris, the Company’s President and CEO, previously worked as President of Shell Solar Industries and also served as President of the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA).
