“Concierto por los Niños” to Feature Shakira, Ricky Martin, Juanes, Chayanne, Paulina Rubio, Alejandro Sanz, and Juan Luís Guerra among Latin Music Superstars Performing in Argentina and Mexico to Raise Public Awareness
MIAMI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Univision Television Network announced today it will be the exclusive U.S. broadcaster of two simultaneous historic humanitarian concerts in partnership with ALAS (América Latina en Acción Solidaria – Latin America for Solidarity), a non-profit organization dedicated to helping the children of Latin America. Unprecedented in scope for the region, the “Concierto por los niños” concerts, to be held in the capitals of Argentina and Mexico on Saturday, May 17th, will feature a veritable pantheon of today’s biggest Latin music superstars in hopes of generating new levels of awareness and motivation that will lead to public and private commitments to help the more than 32 million children of Latin America who suffer from chronic malnutrition. Univision, in support of this goal, will broadcast the concerts exclusively in the U.S. during a Father’s Day Special on Sunday, June 15th from 7-10 p.m. ET/PT (6-9 p.m. Central).
The free concerts will be open to the public and are expected to draw record audiences in their respective venues. The Mexico City concert will take place in the Plaza de la Constitución in the historic Zócalo in the heart of the capital city, and include such hugely popular artists as Babasónicos, David Bisbal, Miguel Bosé, Chayanne, Emmanuel, Juan Luís Guerra, Juanes, Tania Libertad, Los Tigres del Norte, Lucero, Maná, Ricky Martin, Ricardo Montaner, Aleks Syntek, Timbiriche, Diego Torres, and Ana Torroja. In Argentina, the concert will take place just outside of Buenos Aires at the massive Costanera Sur ecological reserve. The performers include Pedro Aznar, Calle 13, Gustavo Cerati, Chilinguita, Jorge Drexler, Fabulosos Cadillacs, Fito Páez, La Portuaria, Alejandro Lerner, Paulina Rubio, Alejandro Sanz, Shakira, and Carlos Vives.
ALAS was founded in 2006 by the most influential artists, intellectuals and business leaders of Latin America. It was formed with the intention of providing children at risk in this part of the world with effective health, education and nutritional programs during their formative years through comprehensive Early Childhood Development.
“Univision is proud to be able to bring these historic and worthwhile concerts to Hispanic audiences in the U.S.,” said Alina Falcón, executive vice president and operating manager of the Univision Network. “We hope our viewers will be moved to take an active role in helping the children of Latin America as they deserve a brighter and more promising future. We are thrilled to be a part of such a worthy cause.”
In addition to the spectacular performances, the Univision special will be hosted by popular novela actress and recording artist Patricia Manterola. Univision.com (Keyword: Alas) will provide extensive online coverage through a dedicated mini-site that will include information on the humanitarian effort, interviews with the performers and video highlights of the best moments in the concerts.
