Continental Airlines Chief Larry Kellner to Address Houston CPA Society

Two-day Spring Accounting Expo offers 5 tracks of sessions, 40 topics and 18 continuing professional education credits

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Larry Kellner, chairman and chief executive officer of Continental Airlines, will be the luncheon speaker for the second day of the Houston CPA Society’s 19^th annual Spring Accounting Expo, May 28-29, 2008, at Reliant Center. Kellner recently gained international attention for fighting off a merger with United Airlines as the deal was about to close.

Peter Roussel, editor of Intown and former White House spokesman for President Ronald Reagan, will keynote the luncheon on May 28. Both luncheons begin at 11:40 a.m. Registration for the Expo begins both days at 7:15 a.m., and the sessions run until 5 p.m.

“With over 1,000 CPAs attending, the Spring Accounting Expo is one of the largest gatherings of CPAs in Texas,” said Moritza Day, director of the Houston CPA Society Members in Industry Committee. The Spring Expo offers continuing education topics from technical tax updates to a panel discussion on bridging the generation gap. Day, recruiter of CPAs and co-author (with Diane Stafford) of 1000 Best Job Hunting Secrets, will moderate the panel discussion, a top issue for many professionals as the Baby Boomer generation nears retirement and various generations approach work with different perspectives.

There are five concurrent sessions featuring 40 topics. Highlights include Steven J. Tillinger’s small business tax update, Jimmy Martens’ program on the Texas Margin Tax and Richard Forrest’s legal discussion of Divorce, Death and Partner Disputes. Other topics include Houston FBI’s cyber crimes program, forensic accounting, business valuation, health care benefits, elder care, employment contracts, expatriate tax and professional ethics.

Registration for Houston CPA Society members and non-CPAs is $175 for one day and $275 for both days until May 21. Nonmember CPAs will pay $225 for one day and $325 for both days until May 21.
