New Fabrics Provide Enhanced Security and Added Protection Against Fire, Extreme Weather Conditions and Combat Situations

2007 AUSA Annual Meeting and Exposition

WASHINGTON--()--Today at the 2007 Association of the United States Army (AUSA) Annual Meeting and Exposition, Milliken & Company®, one of the worlds largest privately-held textile and chemical manufacturers, announced the availability of several innovative fabric solutions designed to protect soldiers and military personnel against the harsh environments associated with armed combat, chemical and biological warfare, and extreme climates. The solutions are now available to manufacturers for custom development of apparel, materials and equipment advancements for the next generation of Americas military.

“We are continually working to deliver innovative military-use materials for the most challenging and demanding textile needs for the individual soldier.”

Milliken will showcase several of its innovative fabric solutions during the three-day AUSA Exposition including:

  • Abrams Flame Resistant (FR) fabrics, an alternative to the current FR fabrics by providing better protection against flames and burns in a more durable, printable fabric with the benefits of improved lightfastness and strength. Abrams fabrics are ideal for uniforms, footwear and protective vests.
  • Gen III Extreme Cold Weather Clothing System (ECWCS), a new layered, fully-integrated system designed specifically for the Army. Includes a wind jacket, loft layer, soft shell and hard shell. Ideal for extreme conditions and changing climates. Currently deployed in Afghanistan.
  • Conceal® Perimeter Security Veil, a unique visibility defense system that works like a one-way window. Currently being used around the world including in Iraq as camouflaged veils and screens for enhanced security around bases, camps, and outposts.
  • Tegris, a 100 percent polypropylene composite for armor applications to counter fragment, projectile and blast threats. Tegris is ideal for hard and soft armor applications, including personal body armor, vehicle armor, blast blankets and a number of other armor related applications.

Millikens military offering delivers a new level of durability, performance, comfort, and most importantly, protection, said Bruce LaFlam, market manager for Milliken Military. We are continually working to deliver innovative military-use materials for the most challenging and demanding textile needs for the individual soldier.

Milliken currently serves as a materials subcontractor for all branches of the U.S. Military, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Post Office and the Department of Homeland Security.
