Syncro Medical Innovations Closes $2.2 Million First Round Financing

CANFIELD, Ohio--()--Feb. 21, 2006--Syncro Medical Innovations, Inc., developer of the Gabriel Post Pyloric Feeding Tube, a novel magnetically guided enteral feeding device, has closed a first round financing totaling $2.2 million. The round, led by Norwich Ventures of Cambridge, Massachusetts, will allow the company to begin ramping up sales and marketing efforts around the device.

"The Gabriel device is a significant breakthrough that allows physicians to overcome one of their biggest problems in critical care medicine, quickly placing feeding tubes in the post-pyloric location," said Aaron Sandoski, managing director of Norwich Ventures. "The early enthusiasm for the device that we're seeing at some leading institutions around the country, such as Brooke Army Medical Center in Texas, is very encouraging."

“Clearly, there is a positive view in the critical care community for the Gabriel Post Pyloric Feeding Tube.”

"We're pleased at the confidence in Syncro's unique technology expressed by this investment," said Syncro President, Gary Wakeford. "Clearly, there is a positive view in the critical care community for the Gabriel Post Pyloric Feeding Tube."

Early enteral nutrition is increasingly being recognized as an important component in the management of critically ill patients, having a major effect on morbidity and outcome. Many clinicians prefer to feed critically ill patients via the post-pyloric route to reduce the risk of aspiration pneumonia. In addition, many critically ill patients have gastroparesis or other medical conditions which may limit their ability to tolerate gastric feeding.

With the FDA-approved Gabriel Post Pyloric Feeding Tube, successful duodenal placement of the feeding tube is performed quickly and easily at the patient's bedside without the need for fluoroscopy, endoscopy, or medications.
