"While we believe that the mission of the Face of America Ride, which is to integrate disabled and able-bodied communities, remains as important as ever in light of the number of recently disabled servicemen and women, we have nonetheless decided to postpone the Face of America 2005 bike ride as the nation focuses on the worthy efforts towards hurricane relief," said Chris Carrigg, executive director of World T.E.A.M. Sports. "By conducting the ride in the spring, we will ensure that the generous support of the community goes to meet immediate needs. In fact, after consulting with a number of organizations about Katrina relief efforts specifically supporting the disabled community affected by this catastrophe, we urge people to go to www.katrinadisability.info to offer your assistance, or if you are in need of assistance. Our long-term goal of helping to reintegrate the disabled servicemen/women back into society will continue and our efforts can be brought back into the public's consciousness at a more appropriate time."
World T.E.A.M. (The Exceptional Athlete Matters) Sports creates inclusive sports TEAMS; using the powerful platform of sports to bring together the disabled and able-bodied communities. World T.E.A.M. Sports has created inclusive sports TEAMS all over the world, including a climb of Mount Kilimanjaro; a bike ride the length of Vietnam bringing veterans from both sides of the Vietnam war together; the Face of America cycling journeys; and programs that teach life skills and character training skills to inner-city youths. The 2006 ride is the fourth Face of America organized by World T.E.A.M. Sports. For more information, visit: www.worldteamsports.org.
