Patient Care Technology Systems Presents at TEPR Conference; PCTS Leadership will be Joined by Partners and Customers to Address National Conference on Electronic Medical Records

TEPR Conference 2005
ALISO VIEJO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 12, 2005--Patient Care Technology Systems (PCTS), a medical software subsidiary of Consulier Engineering (NASDAQ:CSLR), announced today that members of the PCTS leadership team will be presenting insights on advanced electronic medical records. Joining PCTS as co-presenters will be representatives from Albert Einstein Medical Center's Emergency Department and PCTS partners, Global Care Quest and Medsphere.

Speaking as part of the Emergency Medicine track will be Tony Marsico, CEO of PCTS, and Albert Villarin, M.D., director of Medical Informatics at Albert Einstein Medical Center. Their presentation, "The Role of Passive Tracking Communications in High Acuity Medicine," will profile Albert Einstein Emergency Department's improvements in patient flow and department management through the use of passive patient and asset tracking since 2003. Marsico, who has overseen the majority of passive patient tracking software implementations in U.S. emergency departments since 2000, will provide perspectives on the state of the passive tracking market.

“The Role of Passive Tracking Communications in High Acuity Medicine”

Also within the Emergency Medicine track, Alan Portela, chief quality officer at PCTS, will speak on the topic of "Clinical Automation via Functional Clusters(TM)" which represents an emerging model for deploying clinical systems based on clinical functions such as medication errors, staffing, workflow and clinical effectiveness. A continuation of the introduction of the Functional Clusters concept at TEPR '04, this session focuses on emergency department automation case studies based on implementations of passive tracking, clinical documentation, CPOE and clinical decision support.

Portela will address the potential of open source information systems for rural hospitals on an enterprisewide basis in his lecture, "Open Systems and Rural Health." Co-presenting with Portela will be Scott Shreeve, M.D., chief medical officer at Medsphere Systems Corp., a provider of open source information systems using the highly acclaimed VistA electronic health record originally developed and implemented at 173 Department of Veteran Affairs' (VA) hospitals nationwide. The lecture will address the opportunities for open source information systems in small community and rural hospitals to improve the quality of care and reduce costs.

Neil Martin, M.D., chief of neurosurgery at UCLA Medical Center and CEO of mobile technology provider Global Care Quest, will address TEPR conference attendees on the role and integration of mobile health solutions in his lecture, "Impact of Mobile Technology in High Acuity Areas." Martin will present case studies on how a number of mobile technologies can be integrated as part of the electronic health record by providing greater access to clinical data - a crucial element of clinical decision support. Technologies to be presented include: wireless hand-held devices and passive tracking systems. Joining Martin will be Portela.
