Nano-Tex Unveils Anti-Static, Stain Release, Moisture-Wicking Fabric Enhancements

EMERYVILLE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 16, 2005--Nano-Tex, a leading fabric innovation company providing textile enhancements to the apparel and interior furnishings markets, today introduced the industry's first permanent anti-static treatment for synthetic fabrics. The company also rolled out the market's best-performing stain repel-and-release treatment and a moisture-wicking product custom-designed for wrinkle-free cotton garments.

Nano-Tex designed these products to address consumer dissatisfaction in some of the largest and fastest-growing segments of the apparel industry:

“We're eliminating some of the most frustrating experiences consumers face in everyday apparel, from business attire to casual kids wear”

-- annoying static in garments made of polyester fleece and other synthetic fibers;

-- stubborn stains that ruin children's clothes and workwear; and

-- wrinkle-resistant coatings on cotton dress shirts and pants that block the fabric's weave and prevent moisture absorption, leaving consumers looking crisp but feeling uncomfortable.

As with all Nano-Tex products, these treatments were designed utilizing nanotechnology, which allows the enhancements to deliver superior performance characteristics without compromising the look, feel or comfort of the fabric.

The Treatments

Resists Static is the first permanent anti-static treatment for synthetic fabrics. When applied to polyester, this treatment reduces static cling and repels statically-attractive substances -- such as dog hair, lint and dust -- to improve the overall appearance and comfort of garments.

By reducing the build-up of electrical charges on fabric, this new technology also helps eliminate static shocks. Resists Static can be applied to fleece, activewear, uniforms, suit linings and slacks, in addition to other garments. Fleece apparel, a $3 billion market, is one of the fastest-growing retail apparel categories. (Source: Wearables Business)

Repels & Releases Stains delivers the market's highest level of stain release capabilities combined with stain repellency. Repels and Releases Stains is optimized for cotton and poly/cotton fabric to remove stains such as ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, grass and oil.

The treatment is ideal for children's garments, workwear and uniforms, where clothing can be ruined by ground-in stains that previously were difficult or impossible to remove. The U.S. market for children's apparel alone is $28 billion. (Source: Textile Consumer Newsletter -- Cotton, Inc.)

Coolest Comfort. A new extension of the Coolest Comfort family of enhancements now brings Nano-Tex's patented moisture wicking technology to wrinkle-free cotton garments and resin-treated knits. This new extension was specifically optimized for cotton garments that are coated with resins which block moisture absorption. The enhancement keeps consumers dry and comfortable by pulling moisture away from the body as fast as non-treated cotton and at least ten times faster than most wrinkle-free cotton fabrics available today.

In November 2004, the Wall Street Journal listed clothing with wrinkle-free and anti stain properties as one of the top apparel trends for 2005. The market for wrinkle-resistant clothing continues to grow; 46 percent of men's cotton slacks in the United States offer wrinkle-resistant features. "We're eliminating some of the most frustrating experiences consumers face in everyday apparel, from business attire to casual kids wear," said Renee Hultin, president of the Americas for Nano-Tex. "For example, consumers love fleece but hate the static cling and shocks that come with it. Our new treatments enhance the appearance, comfort, versatility -- and ultimately the length of use -- of clothing consumers use most often in everyday life."

Nano-Tex is the first company to bring nanotechnology to the textile industry. The company's patented technology is more efficiently designed to deliver greater durability and superior performance without compromising the feel or comfort of the fabric.

In addition to the new and enhanced products announced today, the company also offers the following fabric treatments:

-- Resists Spills -- Spill resistant fabric enhancement for many types of fibers (cotton, polyester, wool, silk, rayon) that repels liquids ranging from coffee and red wine to chocolate syrup and salad dressings while allowing the fabric to breathe.

-- Coolest Comfort -- Quick-acting moisture wicking enhancement for polyester and nylon fabrics which pulls perspiration away from the body to keep the body cooler, dryer and more comfortable.
