The 17th Annual "Premio Lo Nuestro a la Musica Latina" (Lo Nuestro Latin Music Awards) nominees were announced today during a press conference at the American Airlines Arena. Once again, the hottest names in Latin music make up the list of nominees for the longest running and most popular Latin music award program in the U.S. "Premio lo Nuestro" will be broadcast by the Univision Network (NYSE:UVN) on Thursday, February 24 from 8-11 pm ET/PT (7-10 pm Central/Mountain) live from Miami.
Salsa music idols Marc Anthony and Victor Manuelle lead the competition with the most nominations at five each, going head-to-head in Tropical Genre categories such as "Best Album," "Best Male Artist," "Song of the Year," and "Best Tropical Salsa Artist." Latin pop sensation Paulina Rubio, banda group Montez de Durango, merengue masters Los Toros Band and salsa star Rey Ruiz follow with four nods each. Paulina vies for Pop's "Best Album," "Best Female Artist" and "Song of the Year," as well as for "Video of the Year." Montez de Durango sweeps the Regional Mexican genre with nominations in categories such as "Best Group or Duo," "Song of the Year" and "Best Banda Artist." Los Toros Band competes in the Tropical Genre categories of "Best Group or Duo" and "Best Tropical Merengue Artist," among others. And Tropical music star Rey Ruiz competes in categories such as "Best Album" and "Song of the Year."
Other superstar nominees include the legendary Celia Cruz, Puerto Rican heartthrob Chayanne, Colombian sensation Carlos Vives, singer/songwriter/producer Gloria Estefan, recording superstar Ricky Martin, multi-platinum rocker Juanes and Mexican singer/actress Thalia.
With finalists in 30 categories divided into the 5 most popular Latin Music genres of Pop, Tropical, Regional Mexican, Rock and Urban, along with the Video of the Year, "Premio Lo Nuestro" awards are bestowed annually to the very best talent in the Latin music industry. Nominees were selected from charts compiled by the prominent recording industry trade magazine Radio & Records(R) for the time period of October 1, 2003, to September 30, 2004.
