Inflow assisted Rubio's in implementing a strategic long-term business continuance plan and provides the company with managed data storage services from the Inflow-San Diego Internet Data Center (IDC).
"As a public company, it was imperative that Rubio's take the practice of business continuance very seriously," said Melissa Houston, director of project management and business continuance coordinator for Rubio's. "The core reason why we went with Inflow was the experience with the Inflow-San Diego team. When we needed to get something done, we knew that we would not be treated as 'just another customer.' We were going to get personalized attention."
"We are thrilled to have Rubio's join our growing list of enterprise customers," said Craig McLellan, business continuity general manager for Inflow. "Rubio's is very conscious of the debilitating impact that a disaster can have on a business' long-term operations. Our reliable solutions offer a greater degree of high availability, without the significant costs typically associated with a high availability environment. We look forward to maintaining Rubio's critical applications, and peace of mind, in the years to come."
With a previously established business continuance plan in place, in 2003, Rubio's decided to conduct a Business Impact Analysis review to assess the company's technological vulnerabilities if a disaster should occur. The results of the BIA showed the company needed a warm or hot site solution to recover its computer systems offsite, as Rubio's currently backs up 16 servers and approximately 250 GB worth of data from its Carlsbad, Calif., headquarters. Redundancy was required for several key applications -- such as the Accounting, HR, and data warehouse applications -- so they would be recoverable in the event of a disaster. In addition, Rubio's was looking for a partner that could provide data center redundancy to house six servers that could be used for backup replication.
Rubio's evaluated three providers -- Sungard, IBM and Inflow. The main criteria for Rubio's evaluation included a solid company reputation and flexible customer service approach. Since the company was smaller and didn't have a large budget, they wanted a good "match" for their size in a business continuance partner.
"Inflow was a good size fit, being a mid-sized company itself," said Houston. "We also liked where the Inflow data centers were located -- in Tier 2 cities, not the major metropolitan areas that are more susceptible to attack. Additionally, Inflow offered the most affordable solution out of any we reviewed."
Rubio's was also looking for a provider that had deep traction in building and testing business continuity plans.
Said Houston: "We engaged Inflow's business continuance consulting team, that had significant expertise in evaluating clients and building customized, scalable and flexible solutions that could grow with us as our needs changed. In addition to determining the ideal hardware solution, Inflow also had a relationship with a quick-ship hardware vendor, RentSys, so we only had one vendor to manage."
Inflow's solution includes remote tape backup solution through VPN, professional services used to construct a BC plan and tape backup plan, workspace recovery for 25 workspaces, and systems recovery solutions.
Looking ahead, Rubio's is confident that Inflow is the right partner to grow with.
"We know if our business expands and we do want to outsource and move to an ASP model on some of our data or web solutions, we would be able to do that, with Inflow. Other competitors only offer a strict business continuance solution," Houston added.
"Inflow has a top-notch facility and knowledgeable staff," added Paul Nishiyama, Rubio's director of IT. "We would be more than comfortable with Inflow handling any of our data hosting needs."
