“Our compelling commitment to customers to Get More from T-Mobile continues to drive record growth”
T-Mobile International, the mobile communications subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom AG (NYSE:DT), today announced fourth quarter 2003 customer results of its U.S. operations, T-Mobile USA, Inc.
"Our compelling commitment to customers to Get More from T-Mobile continues to drive record growth," said Robert Dotson, President and Chief Executive Officer of T-Mobile USA. "But Get More goes well beyond our commitment to deliver the best value in wireless. Our Get More promise is backed by, what has become, one of the industry's most stable operating platforms, enabling us to deliver high quality customer service on the nation's most reliable GSM/GPRS network. That same Get More promise helped us gain more than a million new customers in Q4 alone, and put T-Mobile solidly on the winning side of customer porting requests following the introduction of WLNP in late November. Our focused market position is meeting the increasing demands of both wireless consumers and our distribution partners and is responsible for a 32% increase in T-Mobile's customer base in 2003."
In the fourth quarter ended December 31, 2003, T-Mobile USA added 1,015,000 net customers compared to 670,000 in the third quarter of 2003 and 1,017,000 in the fourth quarter of 2002. Net postpay customer additions amounted to 891,000 in the fourth quarter of 2003. Postpay churn was 2.7% in the fourth quarter of 2003, the same as the third quarter of 2003, and up from 2.45% in the fourth quarter of 2002. Blended churn, a mix of postpay and prepay customers, was 3.2% in the fourth quarter of 2003, down from 3.3% in the third quarter of 2003, and down from 3.5% in the fourth quarter of 2002.
For the year ended December 31, 2003, T-Mobile USA added 3,212,000 net customers, an increase from the 2.9 million new customers added in 2002. Net postpay customer additions in 2003 amounted to 3,135,000. The prepay customer base increased by 77,000 for the year. Postpay customers now comprise 89% of T-Mobile's 13.1 million customer base compared to 86% at the end of 2002.
Deutsche Telekom will release full-year 2003 financial results, including those of T-Mobile International, on March 10, 2004.
