| Latest Edition of Embedded Database Extends the Borland Commitment to Embedded and Mobile Computing for Java(TM) |
“The performance, scalability, and synchronization capabilities offered for complex business applications greatly extend the product's appeal to the enterprise in support of an increasingly mobile workforce.”
Borland Software Corporation (Nasdaq:BORL) today announced the launch of Borland(R) JDataStore(TM) 7. As organizations extend their business infrastructures to include mobile and wireless devices, JDataStore 7 offers a number of new enhancements that are designed to help organizations quickly deploy their applications to a broad spectrum of devices. IDC estimates that by the end of 2006, two thirds of the US worker population alone will be made up of people who are classified as mobile workers(1). Western Europe is also expected to see a large growth in mobile workers(2). The latest release of JDataStore 7 marks a significant upgrade from previous versions and builds on the product's major strengths as a high performance embedded database powerful enough for complex business applications but compact enough to run on mobile devices to assist the shift to mobile computing.
JDataStore 7 is an important piece of the Borland Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) strategy for Java(TM) designed to help organizations align business requirements and software capabilities for greater competitive advantage.
"JDataStore 7 is designed to help drive performance gains for embedded computing. With the latest enhancements, we continue to address the need for a powerful, low cost, low impact database. The database is designed to be deployed in environments where there is little or no IT support. This is very appealing to our community of ISVs, VARs and OEMs that require embedded databases for their product line," commented Jon Arthur, director of database solutions at Borland. "The performance, scalability, and synchronization capabilities offered for complex business applications greatly extend the product's appeal to the enterprise in support of an increasingly mobile workforce."
JDataStore 7 Enhancements Include:
-- Fail-safe technology to provide incremental back up and automatic failover capabilities to eliminate single points of failure.
-- Support for database mirroring to provide improved performance and scalability.
-- Server Management Console to allow for remote server administration and tighter integration with Borland(R) JBuilder(R) and other Java-based Borland development technologies and to enhance developer productivity
-- Improved capacity to provide 64-bit database support for improved network performance and to support much larger databases.
-- A reduced footprint to offer the benefit of a powerful sophisticated database on mobile devices such as PDA's, tablets and laptops.
