New Analysis of VantageScore 4.0 Mortgage Credit Score Validates Superior Performance

  • VantageScore 4.0 Uses 400% More Data than Conventional Mortgage Credit Scores
  • Pioneering Use of Large Data Sets Improves VantageScore 4.0’s Predictive Results for Mortgage
  • VantageScore 4.0 Remains the Most Consistent Tri-Bureau Credit Score Currently Available

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--VantageScore today released the results of its eighth annual Model Performance Assessment, reinforcing VantageScore 4.0's position as the industry's most advanced credit scoring model available for today's mortgage market. The assessment, covering performance data from June 2023 through June 2025, demonstrates that VantageScore 4.0 continues to deliver superior predictive performance, industry-leading score consistency and broader consumer inclusion than benchmark credit scoring models.

“Mortgage credit scoring has entered a new era where precision, consistency and transparency are no longer optional—they are mandatory. VantageScore 4.0 continues to demonstrate how advanced analytics and trended credit data enable lenders to make more informed decisions while expanding responsible access to credit for millions of creditworthy consumers,” said Dr. Andrada Pacheco, Chief Data Scientist at VantageScore. “This newly available credit score model assessment reinforces our commitment to transparency and pushing the industry forward with innovative, rigorously validated credit scoring models that deliver measurable value for both lenders and consumers.”

Highlights from the VantageScore 4.0 model performance assessment include:

  • VANTAGESCORE 4.0 OFFERS SUPERIOR PREDICTIVE PERFORMANCE, MAKING IT ‘THE MORTGAGE CREDIT SCORE’: VantageScore 4.0 outperforms prior versions of VantageScore models, as well as other benchmark Nationwide Consumer Reporting Agency (NCRA) credit scoring models for both originations and account management and across all mortgage credit categories.
  • PIONEERING USE OF LARGE DATA SETS IMPROVES PREDICTIVE RESULTS FOR MORTGAGE: The model assessment reaffirms that VantageScore 4.0’s use of trended attributes continues to provide significant improvements in predictive performance. VantageScore 4.0 was the first and only tri-bureau credit scoring model to utilize trended credit data and uses 400% more data to generate a credit score than legacy mortgage credit scores, providing a more predictive view of borrower creditworthiness.
  • VANTAGESCORE 4.0 CONTINUES TO PROVIDE MOST CONSISTENT CREDIT SCORE: VantageScore 4.0’s proprietary attribute-leveling process provides the most consistent credit scores of all VantageScore models across the NCRAs – Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. In the mortgage industry, where three credit scores are the standard, VantageScore 4.0’s consistency across the three credit bureaus makes it the obvious first choice for mortgage lending and securitization.

VantageScore is the only credit score model development company that makes the results of its model performance assessments public, underscoring its commitment to transparency and best-in-class model governance. VantageScore is also the only credit scoring company to offer a suite of free digital tools that provide unparalleled, high-frequency insights into the performance of its credit-scoring models and the consumer credit market overall. These tools include CreditGauge, RiskRatio, Inclusion360 and MarketGain.
