Bridgewater Municipal Workers Vote to Strike

Halifax, NS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Bridgewater municipal workers, represented by Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 1092, voted 100% in favour of a strike.

“The last thing we want to do is go on strike,” said CUPE 1092 President Megan Daurie, “but the offers from the town don’t even begin to address our concerns. They’re trying to offer us minimal raises, cut out banked overtime, and limit long term disability all while prices across the province skyrocket.”

CUPE 1092 filed for conciliation on May 23, 2025. They are hoping to reach a deal that acknowledges the pivotal role their work plays in the community and does not force them to make concessions on overtime and long term disability.

“We’re not just employees—we’re community members. We work here, we live here, we want to continue making Bridgewater a great place to live. We can’t do that if the town is offering unfair wages and demanding we give up our hard-earned benefits.”

CUPE 1092 will meet with representatives of the Town of Bridgewater on September 22, 2025, for their final day of conciliation.
