TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Health care staff at SickKids Hospital will be holding a big demonstration on Monday morning, calling on their employer to commit to a decent pension. This is the third rally they have organized this year, with growing participation each time.
The workers organizing the rally include nurses, patient service aides, housekeepers, lab technicians, and clerical staff, who are frustrated at the hospital’s indifference after having “dedicated” their lives to supporting the most vulnerable children.”
Instead of their current poverty-inducing retirement pay, the staff want the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP) – which is standard in the hospital sector. SickKids is soon set to become the only hospital in Ontario that is not part of HOOPP.
