Los Angeles Business Council Statement on Mayor Bass’ Executive Directive 4

LOS ANGELES--()--The Los Angeles Business Council applauds Mayor Karen Bass for making good on her campaign commitment to make small businesses a top priority with her release today of Executive Directive No. 4, which creates a steering committee tasked with delivering actionable recommendations within 90 days to promote the creation of, investment in, and growth of our local businesses.

For years through our Compete4LA initiative, the LABC Institute has been engaged in work identifying small, local, and diverse businesses throughout Los Angeles and connecting them to contracting opportunities, especially in support of upcoming major sports and entertainment events. Too often, small, local, minority- and women-owned businesses struggle to compete for and win their fair share of contracting opportunities, a reality simply unacceptable given the strength and diversity of Los Angeles’ economy.

We strongly support the Mayor for taking an expansive and cross-departmental approach to creating strong policies that support small businesses, and in turn, increase investment in diverse communities throughout the city.
