LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The MolinaCares Accord (“MolinaCares”), in collaboration with Molina Healthcare of Nevada (“Molina”), is donating $1.2 million in community reinvestment grants to address health disparities for at-risk populations in Clark and Washoe Counties. The funds will advance programs designed to improve access to health care and social services.
Data shows southern Nevada’s homeless population is growing with 5,642 individuals experiencing homelessness in the region. Residents of Clark and Washoe Counties make up 62% of adults accessing adult mental health services. HIV and AIDS rates in the two counties are the highest in the state. MolinaCares’ contributions will support agencies combating these pressing issues in the area.

The donations will focus support in the following areas:

Behavioral Health:
Empowerment Center will receive a grant to provide and expand social and behavioral health services for participants in chemical dependency treatment and recovery programs.

Clinics and Provider Care:
UNLV Pediatric Clinic will receive funding for a new pediatric office. Project ECHO’s grant will fund programs that meet the needs of primary care providers by offering an alternative to costly travel and long wait times for patients needing specialty care. At The Center of Reno, the money will be used to help combat HIV in Nevada with a comprehensive PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) program.

Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs):
Northern Nevada HOPES, Community Health Alliance, First Person Care Clinic, Nevada Health Centers, FirstMed Health and Wellness, Hope Christian Health Center, and Silver State Health will receive funds to provide care to the vulnerable populations they serve.

Housing Insecurity:
HopeLink of Southern Nevada’s grant will be focused on implementing case management at a new, affordable housing complex, serving an estimated 470 residents. Northern Nevada HOPES Springs will receive funding to support the region's only bridge housing program, while SHARE Village Las Vegas’ grant will be used to fund housing for previously homeless veterans and families.
"The MolinaCares grant will enable us to continue to provide nightly housing for over 500 veterans and families, provide market fresh food, nutrition supplies, curbside food pick-up, medical/mental health care access, job access/training, and supplies for pets," said Arnold Stalk, PhD, founder of SHARE Village Las Vegas.

Population Health:
Additional MolinaCares support will be provided to the Doula Cooperative in Washoe and Clark Counties, Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation, to help families overcome the financial and emotional impact of a childhood cancer diagnosis, and RubiconMD to expand e-consults as a statewide solution for provider groups through access to a national panel of top specialists. Grants will also help fund Crossroads of Southern Nevada, Human Behavior Institute, WC Health, and UNLV Mojave Clinic.
